Presents at the 
Eighth Annual New Sweden History Conference

The Claymont Historical Society joined with several area Swedish historical organizations at the Eighth Annual New Sweden History Conference in Swedesburg, PA. The conference examined the artistic and historical contexts of of three Swedish important artists who worked in the geographical area of the former New Sweden Colony (1638-55). Today this area encompasses the states of Delaware, New Jersey & Pennsylvania. One of the artists was Adolph-Ulrich Wertmüller whose home still stands today on the grounds of the Claymont Steel Company.

Claymont Historical Society President, Carolyn Mercadante, introduced Rebecca J. Sheppard, Assistant Professor, School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy, University of Delaware. Ms. Sheppard conducted a historical research study of the Wertmüller House for the Claymont Historical Society. She presented her findings at the conference. Attendees were quite interested to learn of another side of Adolph Wertmüller's life in Claymont, DE.
